A good time was had by all!!

In April of 2019 a group of CHS graduates of 1970 led by John Runkle got together to plan their 50th class reunion in 2020. We finally got to celebrate that event on May 20-21 of 2022. The events were interesting for us all and go basically like this.

During the first committee meeting a date in June, 2020 was made.  We had some push back on that because of the weather. Because of that we moved it to April 24-26 of 2020. We all know what the world was getting ready to experience so on March the 29th of 2020, the committee cancelled the April event. At that time the committee decided that a year was probably a good choice and opted for a 50 + 1 reunion to be held April 16-18, 2021.
Our committee sort of got a kick in the head when one of our committee members, Bob Adams, died of Covid in November of 2020. The committee reconvened in January of of 2021 and cancelled the April 16-18, 2021 event. After this cancelation, John Runkle returned each and every check that we had received to pay for the reunion.
Luckily we kept everyone on track with their duties. Lee and Mickey Steltenpohl did a stellar job actually finding lost classmates and identifying classmates that we had lost during our 50 years apart. Many other committee members came and went but eventually we all got it together. Many of the committee got a bit discouraged and sort of fell by the wayside, but then the class of 1971 decided to have their 50th in September of 2021. Reinvigorated, we decided to have a reunion at the same time hoping that many friends from the two classes would be able to reunite with their classmates. Unfortunately, they too, lost a committee member to Covid and eventually both classes cancelled their events in August of 2021.
Never stopping, we were called  together yet again in January of 2022. A new date was made, May 20-21, 2022.  This time, the event was pay at the door and nothing was mailed in. The committee members got to work, each did their jobs, and we carried it off. I would list the members but fear of leaving one out leads me not to do that. We are sorry to say that we lost another committee member during all of this, Terry Tolbert.
Wow, what a great weekend it was!. It took us a long time and many individuals had to change their plans also.  Many who were coming could no longer and many who could not come could now make it. We were able to  contact over 100 classmates and ended up with about 67 classmates and 30 guests. More than we actually felt would stay with us.
So far the reviews we have received from classmates who came have been positive. The committee is taking a break and John is still working to clean up! But I heard he was calling an "after action meeting" in June!!

Two group photos

The photo on the steps was made on Saturday morning at our Breakfast before the school tour.

The other photo was made Saturday night just before our big Saturday night event.

What a great weekend!!

 Oh What a Night . . . or two!!

As expected, those of us who actually got to attend our 50th + high school reunion were not disappointed.

Hopefully those that were able to come were able to see long lost friends and get reacquainted with others. It was truly great to see how things have changed for us all. Hopefully we will have a solution for photos that were taken to be added to one site so that all may see. Many people had camera phones so we were able to capture the weekend from many different perspectives.

Thank you John Runkle for keeping us all going and getting to a satisfying weekend of fun. Many dates have come and gone but we made it!

IT'S HERE!!!

Finally, we can say that we are going to celebrate our 50th class reunion!! We all know the reasons for our delays but eventually we made it. Hopefully you are planning to attend just to be with friends made long ago. Good people and good weather are expected so come along and enjoy!

September 50 + 1 Reunion has been postponed as of August 15th, 2021

The 50 + 1 reunion planned for September of 2021 has been postponed until April 29 - 30, 2022 because of concerns about the Delta varient of Covid 19 in the Ozark area. We hope the new dates will work for you and encourage you to send in your information to John Runkle at (703) 298-4390 or johnrunkle2014@outlook.com, regardless of what information we may have for you.

New information about our 50th

Today is June 7th, 2021. Yesterday it was decided to share the weekend of September 17th and 18th, 2021 with the class of 1971 and have our own reunion. We have made a couple of changes as to the size of the events but basically the events are the same. One change is that all events will be held at the Holman House on Broad Street in Ozark. We really need to know if you are planning to try to come so that we can make better plans. No costs have been decided on at this time but they will be due at the door. One price for all or one event. We are doing our best to resurrect this reunion after all we have been through this year and two cancellations. Please do everything you can to help us in this adventure and we will be very grateful. Please communicate with John Runkle or Jan Barkett Lisenby. Interested classmates will be meeting again on July 11 at 2 p.m. at the Holman House.  Please let us know your response before that time if you are able. John is planning to email and snail mail everyone he can with this information. Please respond to his requests.

New information as of January 25th, 2021

 Classmates –

Hope you have had a safe and healthy start to the New Year.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenge for everyone and will continue to affect all of us in the year ahead.

We had set a tentative date back in July to hold the “50+1” Reunion for the Class of 70 this April 16-18.  At that time we thought the situation would be stable enough to ensure everyone had the opportunity to participate without any risk to safety or health.

However, based on the current situation and the projections for the vaccination program, this spring is still too early for us to get folks together.  Therefore, we are going to postpone any plans for a time to celebrate our reunion and spend quality time together until the situation is stabilized.

We’ll be sending out refund checks this week for the registration you submitted. Once we have a better idea on when and how best to celebrate, we’ll start fresh with establishing costs and registration requirements.

We will continue to stay in touch via email and will keep our blog site           ( https://carrollhighschoolclass1970.blogspot.com ) updated with information about our plans.

Even though we won’t be getting together this spring, I hope you all continue to stay in touch with each other.

Please keep us updated with any changes in your address, email, and phone number; and any special updates that occur for you and your family in the year ahead.

We all still look forward to the chance to meet with each other face-to-face and enjoy the time of fellowship and to get reacquainted with lost friends.

Please let us know if you have any questions or need additional information.

Sincerely – Class of 70 Reunion Planning Committee

A sad loss

Of course all of our losses are sad but this one got a bit close. Bob returned to the area after he retired. He got involved in the planning of our 50th class reunion and quickly became important to the committee. He  handled the Treasurer's job and along with John Runkle took the bull by the horn and went for it. Last February the committee had to make a hard decision to postpone our 50th for one year because of Covid-19. Bob was very supportive of our planning  50+1. I am sorry to report that Bob fell to the problem. The next few paragraphs are copied from Searcy Funeral in Enterprise, Alabama.

Robert (Bob) Nevin Adams, world citizen and US diplomat of Enterprise, AL passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020.  He was a loving husband and father to his family. Full of energy, a passion for life and bringing laughter to those around him, Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Bob joined the US Army after graduating from Carroll High School in Ozark, Al in 1970. He proudly served his country for 2 years. Bob was recruited by the United States, State Department, and spent the next 40 years living and working in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Monday, November 16, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Enterprise with Dr. Ben Bowden officiating and Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing.  The family will receive friends on Monday at the church from 11:00 AM until service time.

Mr. Adams was preceded in death by two grandsons, Brody Kafer and Parker Bradley.

Survivors include his wife, Citi Adams, Enterprise, AL; 2 daughters, Amber Bradley (Bert), Calera, AL, Megan Glasscock (Matt), Calera, AL; grandchildren, Gibson Bradley, Nevin Kafer, Carter and Will Glasscock; two brothers, Thomas Adams (Barbara), Madison, AL, John Adams (Leigh), Huntsville, AL.

In lieu of flowers, please show your support by contributing to the Lottie Moon International Mission Offering. Contributions should be sent to the First Baptist Church of Enterprise, 302 N. Main Street, Enterprise, AL 36330. Please note in memory of Bob Adams on your donation.

A NEW date, Keep your fingers crossed!

The reunion committee for our 50 +1 has come up with a new date for our "50?" reunion. Hopefully April 16 -18 of 2021 will be a worry free time and we can celebrate our lives since we graduated from High School. Good luck to us all!!

Saturday, April 25, 2020

Just thinking about YOU!!

Couldn't help but think of each and every one of you this weekend. Wish we were looking at your beautiful face and getting reacquainted after so many wonderful years. Of course the weather around here is perfect for whatever one might have planned. We all look forward to seeing you next year during our 50 + 1. Hope this finds you all doing well and staying safe along with your families. Go ahead and pencil us in for next year whenever that might be. Once that date is selected we will pass it on as soon as possible so that you can go ahead and make your plans to attend!
We are looking forward to the day when we can celebrate our 50th reunion!

A special note to ALL

Based on input from classmates with direct access to information and guidelines on the coronavirus situation, we have decided to postpone our reunion out of concern for health risks to our classmates. Our planning committee will meet on the 29th of March to determine the way ahead for a reunion next year.  This weekend John Runkle will call and /or email all the folks that have registered for the reunion.  Please feel free to call or text him if you have any questions at his cell phone: 703-298-4390 or his email: john runkle2014@outlook.com.  We are still really looking forward to a reunion where everyone can visit and spend time together. We'll keep you posted as we work through plans for a new date. Thanks, John

p.s. Please continue to watch this blog and keep in touch with this committee, via John's email or cell number, so that when the time comes to give new information on our 50+1 reunion we will have your current contact information.

John Runkle sent out registration forms with our itinerary included along with other important information you might need. We need to hear from you weather you plan to come or not. Of course we certainly hope that we will get a chance to see you during our 50th class reunion. If you know anyone who has not heard from us please let us know who that might be. We need YOU!

This is a request for your help with our 50th reunion. If you live within 30 miles of Ozark and can help in any way with our reunion in April, we need your help now. Hopefully we will get many of you to come on January 5, 2020 to the Holman House to find out how you might help the best. Presently there are not many of us working on this event. We believe it will take many more hands to make light work for us all and a successful reunion! Please come at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at the Holman House on Broad Street in Ozark. This will be a working meeting.  Please send, via text or email, your cell number and/or email to John Runkle so that we might contact you with a reminder!

Hello from the CHS class of 1970 reunion committee

We just want to make sure that all who need to be contacted are made aware of the plans made for April 24-26, 2020!

Don't assume that the committee has made contact with all who graduated with us or was a part of our class along the way. If you are in contact with anyone that may be interested, please send in their contact information so that we might make sure they have received the proper information. We won't hound them, just inform them. Thank you for your help in this wonderful adventure and we hope that you are looking forward to it as much as we are! Please send this information in to any of the following:

Please take a look at the blog and help us find lost members if you can. We are working hard to plan a great reunion weekend and look forward to seeing you all.

A couple  of our events will be held at the Holman House at 285 East Broad Street in Ozark. Another location we could use is The Warehouse at 105 East Avenue, North.

The entire weekend will be casual dress. On Friday evening we will host a "Meet and Greet". Saturday morning is still being planned. More information will come about that. We are presently working on a couple of "tour" type events or maybe a round of golf for Saturday afternoon depending on the reponse. That information will come later also, so keep looking. Saturday night will be our main reunion event. We are planning good food, music and lots of fun and hopefully making lots of memories with long ago friends. Our biggest challenge has been finding all who need to be found and making sure that we have. Hearing from you, no matter your answer, is very important to help us in our mission. Your answer may be "yes, "no" or "maybe". Either way, please let us know by October 19, 2019 and thanks again!
If you have Facebook we are also trying to keep that site current if you need to communicate that way. Please don't try to contact me through this blog. My contact information is listed above.

Possible new dates for our 50th reunion

The committee got together on June 23rd and discussed many different times in which to celebrate our 50th reunion. Of course every date has some sort of conflict. Our hope is that we select a date that will work for you to come so that we can all enjoy the reunion together. April 24- 26, 2020 is that date we hope to shoot for. It is between Easter and Mother's Day but also a nice time of year around Ozark, usually! Of course someone is looking into the possible conflicts that are known at this time. More news will come later of a date that is set and we hope it works for you. We hope this change will not hurt you or your plans in anyway. Since we are so far away from the dates selected hopefully all will work our for you. More later!!

Saturday, June 1, 2019

New Date possible, PLEASE READ!

It is possible that we will re-think the dates selected for our 50th reunion. This year the heat has been pretty high and a bit uncomfortable. We would like your input. Please email John Runkle at
johnrunkle2014@outlook.com before June 23rd. We will be meeting again that day and the dates will be part of that agenda. If you don't have an opinion or don't mind then nothing is needed. If you want to have your voice heard at the meeting, send it in. Thanks so much.
